Provision for Children Who Are Visually Impaired

Great Binfields has a fully equipped resource base to support the needs of children with visual impairment, along with a full-time qualified teacher for visual impairment, learning support assistants and a technician to cater for the modification and adaptation of resources. The school is capable of supporting up to 10 children with visual impairment.

The school is able to provide opportunities to follow an additional curriculum working on Braille, touch typing and life skills. These activities can be undertaken within or out of the classroom.

We also provide an in-reach facility, that is an opportunity for children from other schools who have a visual impairment to come and join us in appropriate activities such as Goal-ball, tactile awareness art, craft and cooking.

In-Reach for Children Who Are Visually Impaired

Children with a visual impairment from different parts of Hampshire visit Great Binfields School for in-reach. The pictures show us looking for and using 'natural resources' from the school woods to make pictures like the artist Andy Goldsworthy.
